AUSTIN, Texas – After more than one month of searching, Austin police have tracked down a suspect accused of hitting a young boy with her car and then driving off.

The driver arrested has been identified as Westwood High School student 17-year-old Nicole Helen Miller.

On Feb. 9, around 3:30 p.m., a young boy was walking home from school along the 13000 block of Hymeadow Drive when he was hit by a car. According to the affidavit, the injured boy crawled 400 yards home, unable to use his legs.

Miller was interviewed by police on March 21 at first denying that she was involved in the incident. Police then revealed an aerial photo from the scene of the crash and informed her that evidence directly linked her to the location on that day.

The affidavit states that Miller eventually recalled “hitting something,” but thought “it was a small animal.” She then told police that she wanted to apologize to the victim and his family.

Despite knowing that she hit something, police said Miller never returned to the scene to confirm that it wasn’t a person.

Miller has been charged with failure to stop and render aid, which is a third-degree felony.
