AUSTIN, Texas — Austin-area high school students will have one more place to go to earn college credits.

Austin Community College celebrated the opening of its The Health Science Academy. The academy will provide participating ISD students an opportunity to take college courses in phlebotomy, pharmacy and emergency medical technicians courses. The academy also includes allied health classes.

"I really like the hands-on experience before going into a certain health career path,” Maria Esqueda, a Del Valle ISD student, said. “It will give me insight on what I really want to do and see if I like that field or not at this early point."

Students will begin taking classes at the new Academy building beginning Monday, March 19.
