AUSTIN, Texas — Each year, dozens of Travis County residents take part in a group wedding.

For over 20 years, retired Travis County Judge Jan Breland and her husband, Court No. 3 Judge John Lipscombe, host the free ceremony.

Lipscombe and Breland also began holding commitment ceremonies for same-sex couples in 2014 prior to the legal ruling in favor of same-sex marriages in 2015. After the U.S. Supreme Court ruling of Obergefell v. Hodges on June 26, same-sex marriage became legal in Texas.

One couple, Corey and Cheryl Griffin, waited 18 years to finally tie the knot.

They couldn't contain their happiness.

"I'm so excited! Happy...elated...all of that! It's a long time coming, we've been together for 18 years and it's been a struggle to get here and we finally got here. Consummation begins as we leave this building," said newlywed Cheryl.
