AUSTIN, Texas -- It may not feel like Christmas in Austin, but Saturday was the annual Chuy’s Children Giving to Children Parade.

"We have big Macy's style balloons and floats and bands,” said Hilary Delling, a volunteer with the parade.

The music and sights are fun, but the event was all about generosity. The parents aren't the ones giving the presents, it was their little ones.

"My mom taught me to be thankful for what you have because some kids don't have things. It's important to give back to the less fortunate so those kids can have a happy Christmas,” said Madison Regioux.

Many make it a tradition to come out to the parade and bring gifts, making sure to teach their kids along the way the true meaning of Christmas.

"They will learn to spread the love, especially for children who are less fortunate and let them know that they are loved and we care about them,” said Maria Aguilar Miranda.

This is the 45th anniversary for Operation Blue Santa, the police non-profit organization who distributes the gifts. The group gives three presents to each child in a family, in addition to a Christmas turkey. The parade collects 30 percent of the presents needed for the program to give back to thousands of families this holiday season.

As for the weather, it was a little hot for a Christmas parade, but welcoming to most parade-goers.

"I've been doing it for eight years. This is the hottest parade I've ever done. I've done it freezing. I've done it raining. I've never done it at 80 degrees,” said Delling.

If you would like to donate presents, you can find locations at www.bluesanta.org. All gifts should be new and unwrapped.
