AUSTIN, Texas -- Spicy food lovers put their taste buds to the test at the 27th Annual Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival.

Dozens of contestants whipped up their best hot sauce recipes to compete in three important categories:

• green
• red
• special variety

Aside from sampling all the hot sauces, there were lots of local vendors to visit and live music to enjoy. The event is a tasty good time with proceeds and donations going to the Central Texas Food Bank.

"This is during such a crucial time for us. This is right when kids are going back to school, and a third of the individuals we're serving are children. So, the food donations that we're receiving today, they're going to go to such a wonderful use. To help out with nourishment for all of those kids that we're serving,” said Amy Elms, with the Central Texas Food bank.

The Central Texas Food Bank's summer campaign is still going on. They aim to raise 1,000,000 meals by the end of August. They say every $10 donated provides 80 meals.
