BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Hundreds of Southern Tier hockey fans getting their first look at their new team's logo and uniform.

The Binghamton Devils unveiled their home and away jerseys Saturday at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

Officials say the logo honors the three-time Stanley Cup winning heritage of New Jersey, the major league affiliate.

The design took about six to seven months to create.

Team officials say it is original and unique to the Binghamton area and they hope this gets fans excited about a new era of hockey.

"Hockey has been a part of this community for so long," said Tom Mitchell, Binghamton Devils operations executive vice president. "You get to a point where it's like if you're going to continue or not and it's definitely continuing."

"This iconic logo that we call affectionately helmet head is something that we think fits really well with the attitude and aggression that we put on the ice, but also being right with our values," said Daniel Cherry, New Jersey Devils chief marketing and innovation officer.

Binghamton has a five-year contract with the Devils. It is the longest contract negotiated by the Devils and an AHL team.

The team's home opener is Saturday, October 7th.
