AUSTIN, Texas — Austin musician Jimmy LaFave has died after a battle with cancer.

LaFave was 61.

At the end of April, news broke that LaFave had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The singer-songwriter actually found out he had cancer last year, but kept the news private until now.

At a recent show at Threadgills, LaFave brought an oxygen tank onto the stage for a very emtional performance.

In a statement on the label's Facebook: 

The LaFave Family regrets to inform Jimmy's friends and fans across the world that the Austin based singer-songwriter passed from this world, surrounded by loved ones in his home on May 21, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.

In an interview with LaFave, he said any money raised from his shows or GoFundMe page* was not for him. Any money raised would eventually go to some of his favorite charities.
