NORTH CAROLINA -- It's no secret that everyone gains weight around the holidays. But we can help you avoid the holiday budge!

According to Chrtiane Matey, a registered dietitian with Total Nutrition Technology, it isn't unusual for someone to gain five to ten pounds, just in the time from Thanksgiving and Christmas.

However, there are steps to take to make sure you don't fall victim to overindulgence.

First, never go to a party hungry. And, once you get there, don't stand near the buffet table.

Now, no one is saying don't eat anything at all. But, when you do build a plate, consider only getting a couple of bites of each thing that draws your attention.

Don't let your eyes be bigger than your stomach, and just be mindful of what you're putting into your body.
