WEST MLEBOURNE, Fla. — Sixty-five children who otherwise would go without something memorable will have a special Christmas this year.

  • Various law enforcement help children in toy aisles to shop
  • Each child received $100 for the shopping trip

It is all part of the annual "Elves Run" put on by the West Melbourne Police Department.

More than a dozen police officers from WMPD, Indialantic and Melbourne Beach, Juvenile Department of Justice, plus more than 60 Brevard Fire Rescue firefighters and paramedics helped the children in the toy aisles at the Palm Bay Road Walmart in West Melbourne.

"It is all of us as first responders coming together to provide a wonderful opportunity for these kids to celebrate this holiday season," said West Melbourne police officer Graig Erenstoft.

Each child had $100 to spend thanks to community donations.
