RALEIGH, N.C. – A bill filed by Democrats last month could make possessing a small amount of marijuana legal in North Carolina.

  • House Bill 766 would make possessing four ounces of marijuana legal in NC.
  • It would also allow for expunction of prior possession convictions of four or less ounces. 
  • The bill is under review.

House Bill 766, or the Revised Marijuana Laws bill, would decriminalize the possession of four ounces orless of marijuana.

The bill would also allow for the expunction of possession offenses in the state where the guilty party was found to have been in possession of four or less ounces.

HB 766 is sponsored primarily by Representatives Autry, Dahle, Harrison, and Hawkins.

It was filed on April 16, and is currently being reviewed by the Committee on Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House.
