A wake and funeral were held Thursday for a transit worker killed on the subway tracks.

Mourners gathered in East Elmhurst to remember construction flagger Louis Gray.

The 53-year-old and his co-worker were preparing for overnight construction just after midnight last Thursday, when they were hit by an oncoming G train.

Gray was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

His friends say he will be sorely missed.

"Gray was a hard worker. He was always willing to learn. And like you say, he was a great friend," said friend Andrew Crump. "He will always be missed."

"He was a teammate of mine. He was a co-worker of mine. He's a friend of mine. He's a brother of mine. And I really miss him, and I really send my condolences to his family," said friend Richard Gibbons.

Gray's co-worker, 49-year old Jeffery Fleming, was seriously injured.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the MTA are investigating the incident.
