The MTA says the Long Island Rail Road is once again on or close to schedule after cancellations and delays on trains earlier Tuesday evening due to signal problems at Penn Station.

According to the MTA, several eastbound trains out of Penn Station were canceled and combined with other scheduled trains during the Tuesday evening rush, leading to more crowded trains for commuters.

The LIRR Twitter account said westbound service into Penn Station was restored at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after being suspended earlier in the evening.
