SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A new grocery delivery app officially launched in the Syracuse area Tuesday.
Instacart is a way to shop for groceries without waiting in line or leaving your home. All you have to do is select the items you want to purchase through the app and an Instacart shopper will get them for you.
Wegmans is one of the grocery stores partnering with the app. A store representative says there's a slight mark up on products on the app for convenience.
About 95 percent of Wegmans products are on the app, but not all prepared foods are available and no catering services are offered.
If an item is unavailable, the shopper will be in contact during the process.
It's same-day delivery and can take as little as an hour, depending on the time you choose to receive them.
"We've got interest from senior complexes, even student campuses recognizing that people are looking for ways to be able to have food delivered to their home and a convenience," said Evelyn Carter, Wegmans Director of Community Relations.
There's also about a $6 delivery fee on orders more than $35, but different membership options can reduce the fee.
For the next two weeks, if you sign up for Instacart express in the area, it's free for the year.
