VICTOR, N.Y. -- It’s one of the only options in Victor for groceries, but after less than a year in business, Railside Market and Café on Route 96 is asking for the public’s help.
The owners issued a notice Friday saying the market is in danger of closing.
“It’s always tough being a new business,” said Alyssa Consiglio, Railside co-owner. “I think everybody faces their challenges. Just unfortunately it hit us a little bit harder, so we’re going through some struggles. But the community responded really well to our public notice on Friday, so we’ve been super appreciative of the response we’ve gotten from them.”
Railside’s owners previously owned the long-running Wade’s Market in Farmington. That location is now run by Tops Market.
Several shoppers at Railside Wednesday said they were loyal Wade’s customers who come to Railside for similar quality.
“They have great meats here, yeah, absolutely,” said Randy DeRooy of Victor. “And service – great customer service.”
Railside also features a drive-through grocery.
“We’ve been coming here since the beginning,” said Laura Dunbar, of Victor. “We do the drive-through grocery. They have those meals that you can buy, that you can plan for – we love them. Makes it so easy. And we just grab them, right through the drive-through. I actually plan my shopping list on my phone at the end of the day, and just come right and get it a half hour later.”
Convenience is another common theme.
“Convenient because we drive on Route 96 all the time,” said Vicki McCarthy, of Victor. “So we stop by, it’s right there, we live two minutes away, so it’s great.”
Railside’s owners say they hope more area residents realize the convenience of having a local market in their backyard.
“This is too convenient,” Dunbar said. “I don’t want this to be gone.”
