NORTH SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Nick Sanford always hoped he would have his own pizza shop one day.
"I've wanted to do that since I was a kid, my first job was in a pizzeria," said Nick Sanford, owner of Toss 'n' Fire.
But tight on funds, he decided to get creative.
Hitching a wood-fire pizza oven to a food truck, the only thing more unique than the vehicle are the pies themselves.
"We do stuff that nobody else is doing like the fig and pig pizza, we have the only salt potato pizza," said Sanford.
And in two years, Toss 'n' Fire pizza has become a hot commodity.
"I feel like Syracuse over the last two years has seen a huge increase in not only food trucks in general, but events that want food trucks," said Sanford.
So he took that same pizza oven that people cannot seem to get enough of and gave it a permanent location in North Syracuse.
"It's definitely possible to go from a food truck to a restaurant," said Sanford. "I almost think it's better to build that base first because it really makes a big difference for people to know who you are and what kind of product you serve."
So far, adding a few more bricks to their oven is looking like a success.
