What You Need To Know

  • Ted Kresge’s giant Christmas light show started small 45 years ago

  • But it has grown with each passing year

  • The show is free to the public from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The light show’s owner and operator Ted Kresge put on some of the finishing touches just before the sun went down and the light show got underway Friday.

He said he first started the show as a small display and it’s grown into something quite huge over the years.

He starts prepping three months in advance of the Christmas season.

“It’s a very, very large. It’s about ¾ of an acre in size. And we have artificial light as well. And we have every possible Christmas item you can probably imagine. A multitude of animated objects that are by the way from Macy’s in New York. Everything from Teddy Bears to shivering snowmen over there. We’ve got about everything you can imagine,” Kresge said.

For the electricity alone to run the light show, that price tag creeps up to almost $5,000 each year.

The light show is free to the public but you can leave a donation. That light display is located on 2719 Oakdale Street South in St. Petersburg. It runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., from Nov. 26 until Jan. 3, 2022.
