“What’s more fun and thrilling then revving your engine and smoking your tires?” asks Achilles Thomas, the owner of the park.

Thomas, who is known affectionally as the “Mayor” of Lead Foot City, started what he calls a motor enthusiast’s theme park.

“I’ve grown up in the auto industry. My family, my father, my grandfather, uncles. Always been around it from a young kid,” Thomas said.

That’s where the idea started. Thomas is part of a family business on the same property called Monster Transmission, which is one of the largest custom transmission makers in the country.

As the business grew, Achilles felt there was something more that he could offer Brooksville.

“You have to travel a good hour and a half, two hours away to go anywhere. We want to change that,” Thomas said. “I’ve been involved in the community for many years here. I saw that need.”

While the park is still in development, there are attractions that are open.

The big one is the burnout and drift pad, where folks can safely come out and do maneuvers like donuts in a secure location.

But Thomas sees Lead Foot City as more than just for car lovers, he sees it as event center, too.

In fact, on Saturday, they’re hosting their big Monsterfest event for Halloween, complete with hayrides, concerts, food trucks, games and of course a car show.

Future plans for the park call for a drag racing strip and an amphitheater for events.

“It’s a really good feeling to see that we have that much momentum. And we’re just getting started,” Thomas said.

Monsterfest is on October 30 from 5 – 11 p.m. For more information on that event at the park, visit www.leadfootcity.com.
