ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Positive Impact Worldwide, a faith-based, non-profit organization that provides food and other essentials to families in St. Petersburg is outgrowing its space because the need is so great.

Jay and Kara’lynne Brubaker co-founded the organization out of their home in 2003. Their daughter, Karen Selm is Executive Director.

Positive Impact reports 1 in 4 children in St. Petersburg go to bed hungry and they say they are working to put an end to hunger.

Positive Impact says the need for food throughout the city is high but since the pandemic, it's been even higher.

"We started from like 100 people a week to we do 3 and 400 families once a week," said Brubaker.

The organization says every week, there is a line of cars miles-long waiting for food at its weekly Pop, Drop & Drive event.

Positive Impact says it started acting as a food bank, supplying food food pantries to help reach more neighborhoods and more families.

"We’re just reaching out giving people an opportunity to have a meal in their tummy," said Brubaker.

The non-profit has outgrown its current space and is working out of a tent. Brubaker says they need a warehouse to properly store food.

She also says one of the greatest needs right now is monetary donations, so the organization can continue to purchase food to help meet the needs of the community. Positive Impact also needs volunteers to help make meals, sort groceries and distribute food.

The Pop Drop & Drive event takes place every Saturday from 10am-12pm at  1770 22nd St S, St Petersburg at Tangerine Plaza.
