APOPKA, Fla. — A 2-week-old baby boy whose disappearance out of South Florida prompted a statewide Amber Alert was recovered safe Monday night in Central Florida.

Coconut Creek Police said preliminary reports suggested baby Joshua Pachon Quintero was OK, but he was brought to an AdventHealth hospital in Apopka for an evaluation.

Joshua was thought to have been forcibly taken by his father, identified as 17-year-old Jonathan Garcia, in Coconut Creek on Monday afternoon.  

Officers were dispatched at about 2:30 p.m. to investigate a domestic dispute and determined that Garcia had forcibly removed his son. Witnesses told police he was seen hitting and shaking the baby while leaving the scene.

The child's mother has restraining order in place for Garcia, authorities said.

The baby was expected to be picked up by his mother and family members at the Apopka hospital.

Jonathan Garcia was taken into custody, but any charges were not immediately clear. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Coconut Creek Police.​
