The bakery has become famous for the extravagant milkshakes. Last month, singer Lizzo stopped by to enjoy one that was named after her while she was in Tampa.
The Think Pink! shake is just as unique, but proceeds from the shake sales will be given to 25-year-old Victoria Burnham who is currently battling breast cancer.
“It’s going to be a long road,” Burnham said.
She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and looking forward to her last session at the end of the month.
“Everybody says that I’m making it look like it’s easy. It went okay, just hair loss and feeling a little bit tired but besides that it’s nothing crazy,” Burnham said.
Burnham is grateful for the bakery’s efforts to help her during this difficult time. The idea for the shake came from Jennifer Ingandela, a baker at Bake’n Babes. She also came up with the idea to give it directly to someone battling breast cancer.
“Every little bit we could do, we wanted to help her. And what better way than with the freak shake,” Ingandela said.
She knows how important every dollar is for Burnham. In 2017, Ingandela had a lumpectomy and underwent radiation.
Owner Julie Curry says giving back is part of her business’ mission.
"For the bakery, it's always been a really important thing to me to be a community contributor. While we ask for the community to support us and buy cookies and everything like that, we need to give back to the community in the same way,” Curry said.
Beyond selling the shakes, Bake’n Babes social media accounts are filled with stories from breast cancer survivors, and people who lost a loved one to the disease. The hope is to raise awareness.
October 13 is the last day you can try out the Think Pink! Freak Shake. A new “Freak Shake” will be featured in the coming days.
