TAMPA, Fla. — Before the beach and barbecue, Memorial Day is a day to remember our nation’s fallen service members.

What You Need To Know

  • Wear Blue: Run to Remember was founded by two Army wives

  • It is hosting Circle of Remembrance

  • And there will be a run at Ballast Point Park

Here in the Bay Area, “Wear Blue: Run to Remember” is holding its first in-person Circle of Remembrance since the pandemic started.

The group will honor 48 local fallen heroes who lost their lives since the global war on terror started in 2001.

“Wear Blue: Run to Remember” was started by two Army wives who are avid runners. They found running helped them form a support network while their husbands were deployed in Afghanistan, and helped others heal who had lost a loved one in combat.

“Wear Blue: Run to Remember” is now a national organization and on Monday it is hosting the Circle of Remembrance and a run at Ballast Point Park in Tampa.

“It's very powerful to think about if you lost someone in your family, how the family members think, well they're gone now, but how it's just a different and powerful experience when you know someone is calling out your fallen heroes name, they're walking or running in their memory and their honor, and so that's what we're aiming for,” said Stacy Miller, a board member of Wear Blue: Run to Remember.
