The Environmental Protection Agency is putting more than $20 million toward cleanup in the Ley Creek area of the Onondaga Lake Superfund Site.

U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand shared details from the funding on Tuesday.

The senators say it comes through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Law passed by Congress and signed into law in 2021.

They said the money will go toward work on PCB contamination in the creek's floodplain soil and in its sediments.

It's paying for part of a plan to excavate and get rid of more than 140,000 cubic yards of soil and more than 9,000 cubic yards of sediment.
