On Tuesday, a 59-year-old man died after good Samaritans pulled him out of the water in windward Oahu and lifeguards performed CPR.
Around 10:15 a.m., witnesses saw the 59-year-old Honolulu resident swimming at “Flag Poles” between Kalama Beach park and Kailua Beach Park when they noticed him in trouble in waist deep waters, according to Honolulu Ocean Safety.
Good Samaritans pulled him out of the water and yelled for help.
Lifeguards from the closest lifeguard tower, located about a half-mile away, responded. A lieutenant responded by vehicle.
The lifeguards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on scene. When Honolulu Emergency Medical Services arrived, they took over with treatment. Despite life-saving efforts, EMS assisted with the death pronouncement on scene.
A video of the deceased’s body covered by a white blanket was shared on social media by @hawaiinewsreport, a news influencer account with 380,000 followers. “Posting for awareness. Maybe stay away for now from Kalama beach Right now. HPD on scene,” the caption to the post reads.
