The city’s Department of Design and Construction has plans to conduct nighttime work on Kamehameha Highway in Haleiwa and invites the community to a meeting 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15 at the Waialua Elementary School cafeteria to get public input.

The work is part of an improvement project currently in the design stage to enhance roadway shoulders, reduce stormwater ponding and relocate utilities providing an enhanced experience for drivers, pedestrians and local businesses.

According to the department, nighttime work will accelerate construction and minimize traffic disruption and impacts to area businesses.

At the meeting, DDC will share information about the planned work, explain the necessity of nighttime work, provide an estimated construction schedule, potential impacts and proposed mitigation measures. They’ll also present details of its community noise variance application that will be submitted to the Hawaii State Department of Health. Community input is highly encouraged.

The Waialua Elementary School cafeteria is at 67-020 Waialua Beach Road. Individuals can contact DDC at 808-768-8400 with questions.
