Bridge and box culvert repair work on Pokai Bay Street will cause closures starting May 20, according to the city’s Department of Design and Construction.

The project entails demolishing existing bridge pavement sections at three bridges — #839, #840 and #841 — to improve structural integrity and safety for motorists and pedestrians. Box culverts, spalling and guard rails will also be repaired or replaced.

Construction will occur from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday except holidays and will last about seven months.

Pokai Bay Street will be closed in two areas between Lualualei Homestead Road and Glenmonger Street, and between Ala Poko Street and Alta Street. Access for residents near the closed portions will be provided via detours using Glenmonger Street, Ala Poko Street and Alta Street. Single-lane access on bridge #839 will be available during construction.

DDC urges the public to drive with caution and allow extra travel time with the anticipated detours and lane closures. Observe all signs and follow instructions of police officers.
