CLEVELAND — The Ohio Museums Association has named the Cleveland Museum of Natural History the 2024 Institution of the Year.
The museum recently underwent a $150 million transformation, which opened to the public on Dec. 15.
“Our $150 million transformation is an unprecedented reinvention that presents a new model for natural history museums around the world,” said Sonia Winner, president & CEO of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, in a press release. “As we share the story of life in a bold new way, we are thrilled to be recognized for our innovative approach, which places visitors at the center of the experience and inspires people to be a voice for the planet.”
Since the December grand opening, the museum says they have already welcomed more than 100,000 people to its new exhibits and galleries.
They also highlighted another honor they recently received, being the first museum in the U.S. to earn LEEDv4 BD+C NC Platinum certification for their sustainable design.
“Our Museum has a meaningful impact on our region’s economy, contributing $40 million each year through operations, visitors, education, and science activities,” Winner said in the release. “We are proud to make a difference in our state, enhancing its economic vitality while enriching its cultural and creative landscape.”
