AUSTIN, Texas — Much of Texas received rainfall over the weekend, prompting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to activate the state’s emergency resources.
On Sunday, Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to ready response resources ahead of severe weather and flooding expected over the state this week.
As the heat packs on in Texas now that we’re officially in summer, meteorologists are predicting heavy rainfall starting Tuesday. With severe weather, Abbott’s office said expected affects will include damaging wind, very large hail, potential tornadoes, excessive rainfall and flash flooding.
“Texas stands ready to deploy all necessary resources to support Texans as severe weather moves across our state that has potential to bring flash flooding and heavy rain,” said Abbott in a press release. “Texans are urged to remain weather-aware, regularly check road conditions, and heed the guidance of state and local officials to ensure the safety of themselves and their loved ones. Regularly monitor roadways before traveling and check TexasFlood.org for flood information. Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
Texans are urged to monitor local forecast information and weather conditions.
