This weekend is all about dad, and there are plenty of events and no shortage of places to visit across the state that offer family fun.

Entertain dad with hundreds of beer samples, try for the perfect cast at a fishing event or check out a car show that boasts having both heart and horsepower.

With temperatures climbing to 90 degrees, or close to it, for the state this weekend, there is also a real need to beat the heat, and there are options with North Carolina's state parks reopening for the season.

Juneteenth is right around the corner, and Pride Month is in full swing, and there are opportunities to celebrate.

Father's Day Fishing and State Parks

If it's all about the perfect cast for your dad this weekend then you may want to check out the Father's Day Fishing event at Lake Norman.

Cast your rod from  2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Park Lake along State Park Road. Instructors will be on hand and will go over how to obtain a fishing license. Next, it's on to the lake where fishers can learn about which fish they can catch in the lake.

As the summer season gets underway and more recovery from Helene is happening in North Carolina's mountains, more state parks are open for visitors.

Helene wreaked havoc on many state parks across western North Carolina, but since the storm, park rangers have been working nonstop to get things back up and running. While most parks have reopened for the season, some do still have certain trail or area restrictions in place due to damage.

Take dad to stretch his legs on hiking trails or cool off by jumping into a park’s stream or lake.
