TAMPA, Fla. — It takes a special player to wear the Alonso High flag football uniform.

Shea Plantz is one of those players.

What You Need To Know

  • Sophomore Shea Plantz leads the Alonso Ravens in receiving touchdowns and interceptions.

  • Plantz contributed on both sides of the ball at the FHSAA state championships and helped Alonso win its fourth state championship.

  • For her efforts this weekend, Shea was named MVP.

This sophomore accepts the responsibility and thrives under the pressure of playing for the Alonso program. The Ravens captured their fourth state championship Saturday, beating Wellington 21-20 in the Class 4A title game. Alson previously won championships in 2018, 2019 and 2023.

“Wow, I’m wearing Alonso flag football, like I would say the best team in the state, and I think it’s a great opportunity to wear it,” she said.

The Ravens uniform isn’t the only one that Shea proudly wears. She also wears the red, white and blue. She has once again made the team to try to bring home another championship.

“I think wearing the red, white and blue is such an honor to be able to have USA across my chest,” Shea said.

Shea’s been playing flag football since the sixth grade. She first thought softball was going to her route to college. Now she dreams about getting a scholarship to a great school through flag football. The numbers she has posted this season should help her get there. Shea led the Alonso Ravens in touchdown receptions with 15 and interceptions with 16.

“I think that’s like crazy to me because if I got a D-I scholarship, I would be so grateful for it,” she said. “And I think that’s such a great opportunity to have. My dream is to play flag football in college and to be able to keep going with this.”

ANOTHER ROBINSON CHAMPIONSHIP

Also, Robinson captured its ninth straight flag football championship during the weekend.

The Knights had little trouble with Fort Walton Beach, rolling to a 41-0 win to claim the Class 2A championship.

The win earned Robinson its tenth overall crown in 11 seasons.
