VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County Schools is expanding its online learning for students in the upcoming 2025-26 school year.

The school district will launch the VFlex+ program next school year for students and families seeking alternative learning environments.

The program is a part-time initiative tailored for homeschooled students who desire the benefits of a full-time educational experience without the full-time commitment, according to the district.

Through VFlex+, parents can choose where and when school happens — allowing more time for travel, sports, and other hobbies.

Students can enroll in up to six courses and get academic counseling and support to earn their high school diploma.

Key Features of the program include:

  • Tuition-free: VCS provides computers, tech support, and all services for free.
  • Flexible Course Enrollment: Students can take up to six courses.
  • Academic Support: Access to academic counseling and support services.
  • Pathway to Diploma: Maintains a pathway to a high school diploma.*
  • Ideal for Home Education Families: Perfect for families seeking flexibility and independence while ensuring academic rigor.

The county also noted that parents are in charge of their students’ home education and must comply with Florida home education statutes, including annual evaluation requirements (Florida Statute 1002.41).

*They also said seniors will need to transition to a full-time program like Volusia Online Learning or another VCS high school to graduate with a diploma.

Two other online learning options that offer a full range for students include:

  • Volusia Online Learning (VOL): VOL offers a fully online public-school environment aligned with state standards, featuring virtual lessons, teacher discussions, and a variety of assessment tools. Students have access to their courses 24/7, allowing for flexible learning schedules. VOL students participate in live lessons, have access to one-on-one meetings with teachers, and upon completion of requirements, will graduate like all other VCS high schools.
  • VFlex Program: The VFlex program partners with traditional schools to offer a variety of core courses and electives for students in grades 6-12. This part-time program is designed to provide additional educational opportunities and support for students seeking to enhance their learning experience. Students continue to have access to Career and Technical Education courses, electives, and arts programs, as well as additional coursework unique to VFlex.

The county is offering virtual information sessions to learn more about these student programs.
