Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh unveiled the $310 million budget proposal on Monday, which includes improvements to city services like the new trash cans and garbage pickup.

It will also support both police and firefighters through expanded classes for young people and alternative response services for people in crisis.

But as local leaders work to close the gap between city operating expenses and revenue, they'll be looking to bump up property taxes.

"When you look at property values growing and when you look at making our city fiscally sustainable, that's where we have to go," Mayor Walsh said. "What we're proposing is a modest 2% increase for a property value assessed at around 100K. It's about $54 per year."
