STATESVILLE, N.C. – The Statesville City Council has agreed to allow a massive flag to fly over Gander RV. The flag has been at the center of a debate for months.

In the past, the owner argued he had a right to fly it but city leaders fined him saying it violated city ordinance for being too big.
A deal has been made so the city will amend the ordinance so the massive flag will be in compliance.
The mayor says Gander RV will have to pay up to $16,000 in fees and legal costs. Supporters attended last night's meeting to talk about why the issue was so important to them.
"They made it happen to do what was right not what we wanted. That flag stands for freedom and they didn’t take that away,” said Donny Bradley.
