Progress is being made in the fight against vacant and abandoned properties in Erie County.

Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns with village of Sloan Mayor Thomas Ferrucci celebrated their latest victory over "zombie" homes on Tuesday.

Crews began the demolition of a derelict property on Broadway Street Tuesday morning after nearly two years of waiting.

Kearns says the village first reported that property in 2019 as part of Erie County Clerk’s ZOMBIES Initiative.

The county clerk's office then worked with Banks to complete the foreclosure process on the abandoned home.

Kearns' ZOMBIE Task Force works to eliminate vacant properties that decrease home values and create a blight in local neighborhoods.
