A new distracted driver law is now in effect in Georgia.

The Hands-Free Georgia Act took effect on July 1 and makes it illegal for drivers to have a phone in their hand or use any part of their body to support a phone.

Georgia is the 16th state in the country to enact a hands-free driving law.

Supporters of the new law say it’s all about driver and pedestrian safety.
