LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio — Still picking up the pieces from the March 14 tornado, Monica Hurst vividly remembers the details of that life-changing night.

“I got a call from our staff that we had a tornado that came through the area. And I thought to myself, All right, we didn't. It's fine. They're probably exaggerating,” said Hurst, general manager of the Spend-A-Day Marina. 

But nobody was exaggerating. Her Spend-A-Day Marina, known for its luxury boats and service, was one of many businesses that sustained severe damage.

“The devastation was unlike anything I've ever seen — not just for our business, for the entire Indian lake community,” said Hurst. 

Two months later, Hurst’s marina and other businesses in the area have come a long way, just in time for their busiest season of the year.

“I will compliment our entire community and the Spend-A-Day team because we have made enormous strides in getting back to business as normal as we can in the time that has been allotted,” said Hurst. 

And for Hurst, replacing windows and fixing boat fuel pumps is about more than just the business. As a third-generation general manager, the marina means a lot to her family. So getting it back to where it was before the storms hit is the ultimate goal.

“Are we where we want to be right now? No, of course we would like to see more progress in lots of areas, but considering what we have to work with, I think we're in a really good position,” said Hurst. 

And while repairs are ongoing, Hurst said the marina is open for business and even has brand new boats ready for the weekend.
