CINCINNATI — A Green Township man was indicted by a federal jury on crimes related to explosive devices.
Robert Gilb, 50, was arrested June 10 by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force for possessing an unregistered destructive device and transporting explosive materials according to the FBI Cincinnati office.

“This alleged activity posed a serious risk to public safety,” said FBI Cincinnati Special Agent in Charge Elena Iatarola. “The FBI worked closely with our law enforcement partners to neutralize this potential danger and protect the community.”
Gilb allegedly detonated three improvised explosive devices in Hamilton and Butler counties in March and April, according to charging documents.
Hamilton County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched April 12 to Miami Township for a report of a loud explosion. Deputies discovered what appeared to be a blast crater and components of an IED, according to a complaint affidavit.
Through investigation, officials discovered there were two prior incidents in Morgan Township that allegedly had similar characteristics. Butler County Sheriff’s deputies responded to incidents March 23 and March 28.
Gilb was allegedly seen in his white BMW near the site of at least one device, witnesses said.
He is charged with three counts of possessing an unregistered destructive device and three counts of transporting explosive materials. These charges are federal crimes punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
An indictment is merely allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
