Advocates are warning proposed cuts in President Donald Trump’s sweeping budget bill will impact more than 42 million Americans.
That’s how many people rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP.
SNAP benefits are federally provided funds to help people buy groceries.
Last week, the House Agriculture Committee approved more than $300 billion in cuts to SNAP over the next decade.
As part of the deal, lawmakers are also hoping to get rid of waste and require states to shoulder some of the costs for the food assistance program.
