Electric vehicles continue to become more prevalent on streets and highways. They've even slowly begun to pop up in school bus fleets, including in the Rochester area.

Despite that, three propositions to purchase electric school buses in local districts failed on Tuesday. Those districts are Hilton, Spencerport and Churchville-Chili.

Hilton's case was unique in that one proposition to buy 11 diesel buses easily passed by a vote of 757-312; however, its proposition to purchase one electric bus failed by a margin of 557-513.

The Gates-Chili CSD was the first in upstate New York to electrify its fleet. Other districts have been working toward that goal while navigating challenges in the process.

Meanwhile, three districts in the Rochester region also failed to pass their annual budgets in Tuesday's vote.
