SANDUSKY, Ohio β€” Nine months after Cedar Point announced its new roller coaster "Siren's Curse," riders will finally be able to ride it later this month.

What You Need To Know

  • The coaster, named Siren's Curse, is said to be the tallest, fastest and longest "tilt" roller coaster in North America

  • Siren's Curse will have riders ascending an old 160-foot-tall Lake Erie shipping crane tower, and with it comes eerie sounds as it gets closer to the top

  • It will open to riders Saturday, June 28, but there is a chance to ride it two days early

Cedar Point said Wednesday the coaster β€” which is the tallest, fastest and longest "tilt" roller coaster in North America β€” will open Saturday, June 28.

However, the park said riders have a chance to ride it two days early on Thursday, June 26, during an event that will raise funds for a foundation called Prayers from Maria, which raises funds for childhood brain cancer. Tickets for that event are $125, according to Cedar Point's website.

Siren's Curse will have riders ascending an old 160-foot-tall Lake Erie shipping crane tower, and with it comes eerie sounds as it gets closer to the top. Then, the creaking platform holding the train will slow tilt to a 90-degree vertical position and eventually will take riders straight down a twisted track.

The coaster is named after the lore of mysterious creatures said to call Lake Erie home β€” talked about, but never seen before. The park said a creature called "the siren" is believed to have lured sailors to their demise.

Siren's Curse features 2,966 feet of track with a top speed of 58 mph. It's the 19th roller coaster at Cedar Point. Take a peek at the renderings below that the park released last year:
