ORLANDO, Fla. — The pedestrian bridge for Orlando International Airport’s Terminal C was originally set to open in 2022, but because the COVID-19 pandemic impacted construction, its completion was delayed.
Now, airport officials say it will be open later this summer.
The walkway is expected to be ready in late June, but the amount of money being invested in to MCO between terminals A, B, and C is in the hundreds of millions over the next few years.
Aside from a new car rental area area in Terminal C, the airport has added moving walkways, and people movers to help travelers get around.
New MCO CEO Lance Lyttle said a major investment in the works at the airport is a renovated baggage handling system that will take 10 years to finish and cost about $650 million.
“You can go to any ticket counter, and it will get to an airplane,” Lyttle said. “It’s going to be different phases, it won’t be all at once, so it will be different phases. But for the entire project, it could take up to 10 years.
Lyttle said other coming improvements include all new floors and ceilings, restroom renovations, and a major concessions program.
In addition to the investments being made by MCO, Congressman Darren Soto recently announced MCO will receive $30 million in grant funds specifically for Terminal C.
