ALTADENA, Calif. — After three neighbors lost their homes in the Palisades Fire, they’re relying on continuity to get through one of the most difficult times of their lives.
In the aftermath of the Los Angeles-area fires, impacted residents are navigating a tedious and often confusing legal system to recover.
That is why community is stepping up in various ways. In Altadena, local lawyer Kelsey Szamet began hosting legal “lunch and learn” sessions.
Having been born and raised in the area, Szamet says she decided to put her career to use to help her neighbors navigate the rebuilding process.
“The No. 1 thing I would tell all of you is just document, document, document, because I think most of us will see that we have different adjusters starting to get assigned to us in the next 30 or 60 days,” said Szamet at one of the events.
Over the nearly three-hour window, they went over what insurance companies are responsible for, what FEMA covers, their financial recovery options and litigation steps.
The next session will be held March 22 at the El Portal Restaurant in Pasadena at noon.
