FLORISSANT, Mo.– In a letter sent Friday, Senator Josh Hawley asked the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USAE) about reports of a six home buy out in the Cades Cove subdivision near Coldwater Creek due to radioactive contamination.

In the letter sent to USAE Lieutenant General William H. Graham, Jr., Hawley said Florissant officials were recently notified of the proposed buyouts after the Environmental Protection Agency previously stated they had no knowledge of “other areas along Coldwater Creek with this specific situation of contamination.”

"It should come as no surprise that the community is extremely concerned about proposals for residential buyouts after USACE previously downplayed the potential risks," Hawley said in the letter.

Hawley also asked Graham to confirm whether the contamination extended to other properties along Coldwater Creek outside the historic floodplain. The letter also includes a series of questions, including alleged USAE advice for residents not to repair storm damaged homes.
