ST. LOUIS—Young adults from ages 16 to 24 will have an opportunity to gain valuable work experience this summer through the Illinois Youth Investment Program (IYIP) which is multi-faceted approach to youth employment.

The IYIP takes in account physical, emotional, social and mental health needs while helping youth ensure a greater likelihood of success and self-sufficiency through work-based learning, career development experience and pre-apprenticeship programs. While IYIP has four categories of employment opportunities, this one focuses on developing their “essential employability skills” through 180 hours of entry-level work experience.

Next week, the youth may register in-person for the IYIP.

Registration dates are May 19 and May 20 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the East St. Louis Municipal Building (301 Riverpark Drive, East St. Louis, Illinois).

Those whom are interested should bring a state ID or driver’s license, birth certificate, and social security card.

The IYIP starts on June 2 and pays $17 per hour.
