PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A Pinellas County woman seems to have endless energy for good causes. Devin Pappas has developed a group of volunteers who love helping with those causes too.

On a recent morning, Pappas and about a dozen volunteers from her Raising Relief Foundation were at an area around the Indian Shores boat ramp to pick up litter. Some of it was debris left over from last year’s hurricanes.

“Can someone bring the trash bags over to us? Let’s go team,” said Pappas as she led the team to do its work. It’s the kind of project she loves. “When the city commissioner asked me about this, I said, 'Count on us. We are there to help.'”

There was a lot of litter and debris to clean up. “Anything that is not natural really,” said Pappas. “Anything that people have left over.”

Pappas has been involved in countless good causes. Her group has raised more than a million dollars for those causes. Sometimes they give the money away with huge mock check. Raising Relief Foundation also collected large amounts of hurricane relief supplies and arranged for relief plane flights.

On the morning of the cleanup, volunteer Shawn McNair said Pappas was relentless in her activism.

“She recruited me about 10 years ago and she just doesn’t stop. She’s wonderful to watch,” she shared.

Pappas said she learned a lot about helping other people by watching her parents as a child. They set a good example.

“Because I love the community. I think it’s our right to be doing that. We should be doing that. Helping people is something that I was born with,” she said.

She believes it is God motivating her to do her good works.
