NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Aircraft manufacturing giant Boeing is expected to build roughly 210 airplanes in South Carolina as part of a $96 billion “landmark” deal with Qatar.

According to the White House, Wednesday’s transaction agreement is made up of Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 777X aircraft and is the company’s largest-ever widebody and 787 order.

"This historic agreement will support 154,000 U.S. jobs annually, totaling over 1 million jobs in the United States during the course of production and delivery of this deal," White House officials said in a statement during President Donald Trump's visit to the Middle East.

The announcement comes following months of uncertainty for employees. In October, the company announced it intended to cut 10% of its workforce, totaling 220 permanent cuts at Boeing’s North Charleston facility.

On Wednesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham released a statement confirming the aircraft in the deal will be assembled at the Boeing facility in North Charleston.

“Qatar Airways’ purchase will ensure the Charleston plant has work for many years to come and it is a validation of the work product coming from the Charleston Boeing facility. The Boeing workforce in South Carolina has a lot to be proud of – they consistently work hard and provide great airplanes,” Graham said.

Additional details about the order have yet to be released.
