Carlos Garcia joined the Spectrum News team in 2015, which, for him, was like watching his life come full circle. As a kid, Carlos remembers watching the station's launch and now he gets to tell the stories of the people from his own community on the very station he grew up watching.

For the past five years, Carlos has reported on stories that have made national headlines, like the Austin bombings, being on the front lines of Hurricane Harvey, and President Obama's visit to Austin during SXSW. He was also part of the award-winning team covering the mass shooting at a Waco restaurant in 2015. Covering the opioid epidemic in Texas remains one of the most critical experiences for Carlos, who met with those directly affected by the crisis. He still keeps in touch with one mother who lost her son, and many others in the recovery community, as they continue their goal of ending the epidemic.

Carlos was born and raised in Austin, so it’s safe to say he’s an expert when it comes to experiencing the city the best way possible. Pro tip: In order to experience the best of Austin all in one day, grab some Black's Barbecue, walk over to Zilker Park, set up a picnic, and sit back and enjoy the weather.
