Karen Edwards joins the Spectrum News 1 team as a self-proclaimed southern girl who is ready to take on the north. A native of Georgia, Karen brings eight years of on-air journalism experience to all of Upstate New York. Today, Karen finds her daily inspiration through the dedicated and knowledgeable staff that whom she is surrounded.

With the dream of being a journalist since she was 8 years old, Karen feels lucky to get to walk into the newsroom every day with the opportunity to connect with communities across the state. The recipient of several broadcasting awards and a participant of Emmy award-winning newscasts, it’s safe to say that Karen made her dream come true.

Living in Upstate New York, Karen appreciates the high level of participation by members of the community when it comes to government and local decision-making. Throughout her time reporting, nothing has meant more to her than the extensive reporting she and the Spectrum News 1 team have continued to do on the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder and continued calls for equality in the U.S.

After spending a year in Rochester, Karen now calls Albany home. Outside of the newsroom, Karen keeps busy by catching up with family, taking care of her cat, Monti, working to learn the Korean language, re-watching Star Wars or reading manga, to name a few. Karen is excited to continue exploring all that the Capital Region has to offer and plans to spend time soaking up the state’s extensive history and culture.
