ROCHESTER, N.Y. — U.S. Rep. Joe Morelle is now calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign.

“The allegations against Governor Cuomo are deeply troubling," Morelle said in a statement. "It has become clear that he cannot continue to effectively govern and provide the leadership our state needs during this critical time. For the good of all New Yorkers, the Governor should step down so that we can focus on the important issues facing our communities.”

This comes hours after Cuomo insisted he would not leave office despite mounting allegations over the last month of sexual harassment or inappropriate behavior by six women.

Cuomo insists he never touched anyone inappropriately. He has called for patience while the state Attorney General’s office does an investigation, and he reiterated that point Friday.

"Women have a right to come forward and be heard and I encourage that fully," Cuomo said. "But I also want to be clear there's a question of the truth."
