ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The housing market in Rochester is the toughest in the country, according to Realtor.com.

The site named the Flower City number one on a list ranking the difficulty of finding a home. On average, it found there are just two listings per 1,000 households.

More people are looking to buy this year and that's not good considering there is less inventory available than last year

"Trying to find a new home was very challenging because every time you find a house that you like, they were sold in a week," said homebuyer Mike Daniels. "It was about a week that it would be sold. There was a lot of disappointment when I was trying to find the perfect home for myself."

"It's something where buyers have to go into it very prepared," said local realtor Gary Norselli. "Really set their expectations appropirately given the current market conditions. And really best position themselves when it comes to preparing the right offers, preparing to look at homes. And that's why it is so important that they sit down with someone before they even start looking at any homes and kind of just walk through the process and kind of take a look at the different factors that come into play."

Housing analysts also report fewer new homes built because of rising costs and supply chain issues.
