ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Five local pro-basketball players are paying it back to their community by encouraging the youth to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

It's all a part of the new "Shot for a Shot" event that takes place next Tuesday, August 24.

People ages 12-17 who get vaccinated at the clinic can get their pictures taken with Isaiah Stewart, Naz Carter, Anthony Lamb, Quinton Rose and Antwoine Anderson.

Families also have the chance to earn up to $100 in gift cards for being vaccinated.

"When I'm home in Rochester I'm around a lot of family members," said Stewart. "With my mom and dad being older in age, I want to protect them as well because I want to see them and be around them. That really pushed me to get the vaccine. At first, it took me a while, it was not a right away answer."

"Pushing the initiative to get vaccinated is really important right now," said Lamb. "Just to get things back to everybody can feel comfortable and feel safe and not have to have that stress and anxiety of ok 'I don't know who I can talk to. I don't know who I can go around. Knowing now that I can get sick, not just my family or my parents. If I stay away from them I personally can get sick and be in danger.' Being able to take that weight off of all our backs is important."

The event takes place at the Lightfoot R-Center on Flint Street in Rochester from 2 to 5 p.m.

Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. You can register here.
